Family Vacation to Maui

This year my annual family vacation with the entire crew was to Maui. It gave me the chance to rediscover this beautiful island and all the different experiences it can offer. Here is a quick breakdown:

Wailea

This area is about thirty minutes south of the airport. There are several resorts like the Fairmont Kea Lani and Grand Wailea lined up along the beach. While I personally think this area is a bit over crowded, the Four Seasons is still absolutely lovely. They offer plush rooms, lovely staff and a serene retreat – especially the adult only serenity pool pictured above. The Andaz is the newest addition to Wailea catering to a more young, hip crowd.

Kannapali/Lahina

If you have a family or group looking for plenty of activities, options and entertainment then Kannapali is for you. With a long pedestrian walkway along the beach, guests can easily visit several resorts like the Hyatt and Westin then walk to Whaler’s village for shopping and dining. Lahina is a bit more of a local’s town with great restaurants like Kimo or Mala. A must for dining at least one night.

Kapalua

Just over an hour north of the airport, Kapalua has the reputation for being rainy and windy, yet we never experienced this during our stay. I really like how this area feels spread out; it’s more lush and tropical feeling than the rest of the island. In this area, I would recommend the Ritz for guests looking for a great hotel. I think the Montage is a better fit for families or small groups that would like a kitchen and more common space. There are also several amazing restaurants like Merrimans, Plantation House, Sansi and Pineapple Grill to keep your appetite satisfied.

Overall, there truly is something for everyone on Maui!
